Key takeaways

  • The CASF Foundation added $180,000 to its Everglades University construction scholarship endowment, bringing the total gift to $240,000.
  • The announcement came at the first annual CASF/EU Construction Management Job Fair, which connected CASF member companies with EU students and alumni.
  • The endowment began in 2021 with a $60,000 CASF Foundation gift that created a permanent scholarship at EU’s School of Construction Management.

CASF announces a $180,000 expansion

CASF Executive Director Remy Mackowski addressed the CASF members, EU students, and alumni at the job fair. He spoke about the success of the scholarship program under CASF’s initial $60,000 gift and the scholarships it has awarded to EU construction management students.

Mackowski credited the strong relationship with Everglades University President Kristi Mollis as a significant reason for the event and for the program’s expansion. He then announced the additional $180,000 gift, bringing CASF’s total to $240,000.

President Mollis followed, thanking CASF for its support and for the generous expansion. She thanked Mackowski for his instrumental role in building the relationship between the two organizations and wished the CASF member companies and EU alumni great success at the event.

How the endowment began

The partnership dates to 2021, when the CASF Foundation made a $60,000 gift to establish a permanent scholarship endowment at Everglades University’s School of Construction Management.

The CASF Foundation funded the original gift entirely through member donations made during membership renewals and at CASF events. Scholarships go to junior and senior students who submit an essay describing their plans to pursue a construction career in South Florida.

At the time, CASF described the endowment as a way to help grow South Florida’s construction workforce. It also noted it was exploring mentorship, internship, and outreach opportunities with EU. Read CASF’s original 2021 announcement.

“We aspire to educate and train the future leaders of South Florida’s construction industry, as well as to support the needs of the industry.”

— Kristi Mollis, President and CEO, Everglades University, on the founding of the endowment in 2021

Five years later, the first annual job fair and the expanded endowment show that relationship in action. The same industry association that funds scholarships for EU students is now bringing its member companies to meet them.

Inside the career expo

Employers from across South Florida’s construction industry set up at the expo to meet Everglades University students and graduates. They conducted interviews, shared their expertise, and talked through opportunities in general contracting, construction management, specialty trades, and internships.

Everglades University extends a heartfelt thank-you to CASF and to every employer and industry partner who took part. Their willingness to meet EU students and graduates, conduct interviews, and open doors to career opportunities means a great deal to the university and its students.
